Chandigarh, May 27- Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that the Central and State Governments are formulating new schemes to provide social security to gig workers. For this purpose, a special campaign should be launched across the State to register all gig workers engaged in various platforms and to create awareness among them so that they can avail the benefits of government schemes.
The Chief Minister gave these directions on Wednesday while reviewing the roadmap and action plan of the Labour Department for the next five years under Haryana Vision 2047 at the Haryana Civil Secretariat. He also gave extensive directions to the officers regarding the welfare of workers in the unorganised sector and increasing women’s participation in the workforce.
The Chief Minister said that the Haryana Government had announced in the current financial year’s budget to extend social security and other benefits to gig workers. Similarly, the Central Government is also working on schemes for the welfare of gig workers. To ensure that eligible persons receive due benefits, it is necessary that all gig workers are registered, and for this purpose, a special campaign should be launched to complete the registration process at the earliest, said Sh. Nayab Singh Saini.
The Chief Minister said that all platforms engaging gig workers should also be contacted. Special camps should be organised to extend the benefits of other schemes to gig workers and to conduct awareness programmes for them, he said.
Principal Secretary, Labour Department, Sh. Rajeev Ranjan informed that at present 21,777 gig workers have been registered in the State and the process of registering the remaining workers is underway. For this, the department is collecting information by deputing officials to various platforms.
The Chief Minister said that the department should prepare a complete calendar of activities related to the registration of gig workers and ensuring access of various schemes to other workers as well.
Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that more than 30 schemes are being implemented for workers through the Labour Department. To ensure effective delivery of these schemes to beneficiaries, the structural reorganisation of the Labour Department will be undertaken. He directed the department to prepare a detailed vision document along with a timeline of activities to be undertaken over the next five years.
The Chief Minister further said that a comprehensive action plan should also be prepared to enhance women’s participation in employment. This requires coordinated efforts of all departments. The value of labour of women engaged in agriculture and domestic work is often not adequately recognised. To provide a conducive working environment for women, working women hostels should be established in every district and crèches should be set up for their young children, he said.
